Coldon Homes apprentice recognised by Master Builders Victoria at annual awards.
Congratulations to Coldon Homes Leading Hand, Taj Lyttle, on earning recognition from the Master Builders Association at the Regional Gippsland Apprenticeship of the Year Awards, by receiving the ‘2022 Gippsland Chairperson’s Award’.
What an outstanding achievement Taj!
The awards celebrate the Gippsland region’s building and construction apprentices, and the achievements they have made over their careers and the 2021 academic year.
We caught up with Taj who was very pleased to receive this award. We asked him about his career path with Coldon Homes and what this recognition means to him.
Taj began his career with Coldon Homes over three years ago when he chose to continue his carpentry apprenticeship with us. It wasn’t long before Taj was recognised as a team member who would add a huge amount of value to our business.
Taj said he was very grateful to Coldon for the opportunity they had provided and also the diversity in the work he was exposed to.
“We get to do everything at Coldon which is great for my skillset and my career.
Thanks to the size of the business, I’ve learnt from many different people at Coldon and therefore have picked up various techniques and tips along the way giving me many different perspectives.
I started my apprenticeship with a builder whose business focused mainly on renovations, so for me to build homes from start to finish has meant I have learnt the foundations of a home build. I now know every stage of construction intricately.”
When asked about working with us, Taj said he loved working with Coldon (and we didn’t pay him to say that!).
“I was accepted really quickly by everyone at Coldon Homes and for me to be appointed as a Leading Hand when I completed my apprenticeship is incredibly rewarding.
I was sharing my experience with a friend in Melbourne who is also in the building game – he couldn’t believe the amount of experience I have gained by working with Coldon. I literally have had exposure to every element of the building site and process – it’s set me up for life! It’s just one of the reasons I love what I do – no two days are ever the same and that’s pretty cool.”
When we asked Taj if he would recommend starting a career with Coldon he said not to hesitate!
“You really do get the building blocks of learning when you work with Coldon (excuse the pun) and you’ll definitely stand out in the field if you’ve completed an apprenticeship with them because of the diverse skillset you obtain. Thank you to everyone who has influenced my career so far which has resulted in me being recognised with this incredible award from Master Builders Victoria.”
If you ever have the pleasure of meeting Taj in person, ask him about his job. He exudes passion and we are very grateful to have him as part of our team.
