Location: Lance Creek, Gippsland Victoria

Home Design: Manor Customised Design

The Williams family knew from the get-go the style of home that would suit their block and they had a clear vision on how they wanted it built. Having constructed many homes in the past, they knew the questions to ask and the answers they wanted to hear.

That’s where Coldon Homes came in.

  • Why did you build with Coldon Homes?

The style of homes that Coldon build looked promising when we were searching for our builder and then the basic layout of one of their designs was just what we were looking for. We also knew that our builder had to be local. As in a ‘true local’ builder. A builder that was just around the corner should we need them – not located elsewhere. We have built with other ‘out of towners’ before and we had to do the leg work and travelling. Not this time. Coldon’s location in Wonthaggi meant they were here at a moments notice should we have needed anything.

We had a clear vision of the house we wanted to build and it had to be on stumps. Every builder that we approached tried to convince us to build on a slab, but we didn’t want to. When we told Rob from Coldon we wanted to build on stumps, he replied with ‘no problem, let’s find the best design to suit you!’ It was music to our ears. We knew from that moment that we’d found the builder for us.

  • How would you describe your overall Coldon experience?

It has exceeded our expectations. Everyone we have worked with at Coldon has been fantastic.

Rob was great throughout the design phase, Anna at reception had a smile and was so helpful each and every time we visited the office, then Travis our site supervisor has been tremendous. Nothing has ever been a problem for this team when it comes to helping us.

It also helped that Rob had great taste in road bikes. 🏍😉

  • How was the design and build process for you?

Terrific and we loved how they were happy to customise our build. We wanted to alter the design of our home ‘significantly’ and Rob helped us change the Coldon ‘Manor’ design to exactly how we wanted and didn’t flinch when we said we would prefer a premium James Hardie Linea Board product over brick veneer. We even converted the garage into a beautiful art studio space. You think of the alteration, we did it, and it was never a problem or a hassle for the Coldon team.

To the point that when they recognised how precious water will be to us out here on our acreage, they helped us come up with a water efficiency plan.

At the end of the day, they were happy to build what we wanted, not what was an easy or quick solution for them.

  • Why do you think it is important to build with a local builder?

We know where Travis lives! Haha, kidding, not kidding.😉

In all seriousness, we have built with out-of-town companies in the past and we had to do all the leg work or we had to wait until they next had their tradies in town to get work done. Never again. These guys are just around the corner – it’s convenient and makes sense.

Besides, building in Gippsland can throw it’s curve balls. They know the lay of the land and what will work best given the conditions.

  • Would you recommend Coldon Homes to others?

YES! We wouldn’t hesitate.

  • What has exceeded your expectations when it comes to your overall Coldon experience?

The overall quality of the build. The quality of the finishes and especially the quality of the kitchen build and cabinetry. They did the little extra things in our kitchen and we can tell.

  • What is the favourite part of your new home?

The art studio and bathrooms.
